Sebastian spoke to you all? Well, don't listen to him, everything he says is rubbish. He's rubbish.

((ooc: Okay so. Important French Purebloods and such will probably know she was "attacked" by a Death Eater. And since bits of it (hey, her high-profile politician father is spending a lot of time in the hospital) would probably make the news elsewhere, if your character is smart and cares enough they can probably put it together. [ Lili takes a drink of water from a cup next to the bed, and looks back at him, offering a weak smile. It hurts to speak, a week of coughing will do that to you. She's willing to endure it, if it'll make him happy. She's bent enough as it is, if he shows any other emotion - and she knows it's there, the hurt, the sadness, and if the bruises are any indicator, the anger - she'll finally break. As long as they can put that off, she'll talk all day. ]

I was scared, too. I'm lucky to be alive.

[ The laughter fades, and Matthew flops down on the chair beside her bed, limbs feeling loose and boneless. He haunches forward and runs a hand over his face, grateful that the healers had done a good job with his nose. ]

D-don't speak if it hurts, I'm sorry. You are incredibly lucky.

[ Was she really? The first thing she'd seen was her father, with the dark circles under his eyes that were supposed to be kind, and comforting, but now did nothing but remind her of what a terrible fool she was. He'd looked at her with fear, not love. It was enough to make her regret waking up in the first place. The thought makes her clench her lips together, nervously. ]

...yeah. And it's fine. Nothing compared to that. [ That what? What do you call something like this? ] That incident.

[ Matthew gives her a look at that, elbow propped on his knee, fingers splayed over his mouth. ]

... No, I imagine that it isn't. Thank goodness.

[ What is that look, exactly? Despite her best efforts, Lili cringes. ]

Yeah... [She reaches for his hand, unsure of what to do next.]

[ Without hesitation, he takes that hand, holds onto her like a life line. ]

[ Oh. How did he...

There's too many things going through her head at once, and she isn't prepared to handle them. She's still getting used to the thought of still being alive, she's not ready to admit to everything she'd been covering up since they met. Can't hide like a scared little girl any longer.]

I'm sorry. You should have heard it from me.

[ He merely shakes his head and presses her hand to his lips, throat suddenly tight. ]

[ Lili coughs, taking another drink of water. She scoots closer to Matthew, ignoring the burning that touches every part of her. With great effort, her legs swing over the side of the bed, her face forcing itself to stay straight. Deep breaths. Remember how great it feels to breathe? ]</small We'll have to talk about it. It should be sooner rather than later.

L-Lili, should you really be moving already?!

[ Hurriedly wiping at his eyes with the back of his hand, he scooted back on his chair to give Lili space to move. ]

We should, but...

It's fine, it's just...lingering effects. They said it happens, after multiple rounds of the Cruciatus Curse. It's better than going mad. Nothing to do but wait it out, it's not like I can make it worse.

[ Did he have to scoot away? Lili grips his hand a little tighter, not wanting to let him slip away. Maybe then, he wouldn't run away, like she knows he will. That's what any sane person would do. She coughs again, tossing her hair behind her back. ]

But?

[ A familiar anger bloomed in his belly. Matthew's expression darkened at the mention of an Unforgivable Curse, his grip tightening around her fingers as well. ]

I see. [ He averted his gaze from her and worked his jaw, uncaring of how it still ached. ] Nothing. I-I just don't want you to overexert yourself.

[ She hated that expression. It didn't look good on him, and it made her chest feel heavy. And as far as she knew, she had been the one to put it there. Her eyes welled up, just a bit. Nothing was going to fall just yet. ]

Are you alright? [ Stupid question. ] You can tell me. We've been over this.

I -- the man who did this to you. [ He breathed and stared down at the tile floor, the tip of his bright red. His knuckles were still raw from his fight with Alfred, and they stung now as he squeezed. ] I just wish I could just...

[ Matthew didn't dare continue his sentence. This wasn't the time for useless thoughts like that. His grip loosened. ] F-forgive me, it's a foolish thought. The Aurors are taking care of him now.

Matthew, if you're going to get into fights, bring gloves, your hands look terrible... [ She brought his hand closer to her face, for inspection. ] And your hair...

Aurors needed my blood to stain their robes before they even had a clue. I'm not expecting much out of them.

[ Alright, sitting up had been a terrible idea. With a partly stifled groan, she laid back down, doing her best not to curse under her breath. Lili's voice grew quiet, as she glanced nervously at the door, and back at Matthew. ]

You...know what happened, don't you? He was defending himself.

I don't exactly plan to get into fights, but I'll keep that in mind. My hair will grow back in time...

[ Matthew flashed a humorless smile that quickly faded as she settled back down. Worried, he drew his chair closer to the bed and ran his thumb over her fingers. ]

... Y-yes, I do.

[ He slumped forward and rest his head against her hand and mattress. ]

You're not even of age, Lili, how could have possibly taken him on? The Aurors might seem incompetent, but at least they're properly trained...

Training doesn't do them a bit of good if they can't even figure out who he is.

Would they not have believed you if you told them and provided evidence?

[ Lili rolled her eyes, with a groan. ]

There was none. Only the word of a teenage girl, saying she was taunted during that disaster at the Ministry. Which, nobody else would have noticed, as they were all too busy fending for themselves.

I knew I was right. I wouldn't have been risking my life, had I been wrong, anyway.

Lili! [ He suddenly sat upright, the volume of his voice steadily rising. ] You shouldn't have been risking your life in the first place! You're talking about your life as if you have more than one, and you -- don't be so bloody nonchalant about it!

[ With a groan, he cut himself on and pulled back to slump back in the chair, cradling his head in his hands.]

...sorry. I'm sorry. Please forgive me. It's too late speculation anyway. I was little help then, I'm little help now. I'm just grateful that you're alive.

What else was I supposed to do, then? I didn't have any other options!

[ She knew she deserved to be yelled at, but it felt so wrong coming out of Matthew. ]
